Summary

From #1  New York Times  bestselling author Kathryn Purdie comes a high-stakes fantasy duology flush with doomed romance and macabre magic, perfect for fans of Stephanie Garber and Roshani Chokshi。

Bone Criers are the last descendants of an ancient famille charged with using the magic they draw from animal bones to shepherd the dead into the afterlife—lest they drain the light from the living。

Ailesse has been prepared since birth to become their matriarch, but first she must complete her rite of passage: to kill the boy she’s destined to love。

Bastien’s father was slain by a Bone Crier and he’s been seeking revenge ever since。 Now his vengeance must wait, as Ailesse’s ritual has begun and their fates are entwined—in life and in death。

4 starsFor pure enjoyment。 I didnt read this trying to spot the bad things, so I really enjoy it。 Can’t give it 5 stars because at the start I Hated Sabind like she seemed such a baby, but in the end I really enjoyed her growth as a charachter and really began to love her。The relationship between Bastien and Ailesse was a little rushed but I still enjoyed it。 Ailesse’s mother was interesting and I likes how she kept the secret through the biggest part of the book and it really had me intrigued。 4 starsFor pure enjoyment。 I didnt read this trying to spot the bad things, so I really enjoy it。 Can’t give it 5 stars because at the start I Hated Sabind like she seemed such a baby, but in the end I really enjoyed her growth as a charachter and really began to love her。The relationship between Bastien and Ailesse was a little rushed but I still enjoyed it。 Ailesse’s mother was interesting and I likes how she kept the secret through the biggest part of the book and it really had me intrigued。 Maybe her reasons were a little bit unverhelming, but i could feel that she was dangerous and could sacrifice everything for what she wanted。 。。。more

“Do not mock what you don't understand”Ive been dying to read this one for quite a while & seeing as this month bone criers dawn is released I finally decided to pick it up and get it read 😊Overall, I enjoyed it 。。。 I liked the characters - Sabine was probably my favourite, I definitely connected to her the most, mainly when it came to her feelings towards the animal sacrifices。 I liked the mythology & the magic system of the bones criers themselves 。。。 especially the human sacrifice 。。 I got it “Do not mock what you don't understand”Ive been dying to read this one for quite a while & seeing as this month bone criers dawn is released I finally decided to pick it up and get it read 😊Overall, I enjoyed it 。。。 I liked the characters - Sabine was probably my favourite, I definitely connected to her the most, mainly when it came to her feelings towards the animal sacrifices。 I liked the mythology & the magic system of the bones criers themselves 。。。 especially the human sacrifice 。。 I got it, I quite liked it 😂 - What better way is there to show your dedication to the gods & your duty than to lure your one true love, your soul mate & kill him 😏 I’m not morbid, I just get it 🤣 The animal sacrifices I did feel a bit 😢 but I did find the whole aspect of it all interesting。 However 。。。 the world building could have been better, there just didn’t seem to be much of it。 I also wanted some more details or explanations into certain things 。。。 like their religion, the gods, who even found out about the animal sacrifices etc。 The romance was a bit meh! I was expecting enemies to lovers and although it was there it also just felt lacking but maybe that has something to do with what we find out near the end 🤷‍♀️I’m hoping the next book will fill in all the gaps and answer all my questions 🤞🏼Overall I had a few niggles and it didn’t quite live up to my expectations I had going in but ultimately I did really enjoy the book & I will for sure be continuing the series。**Maybe more of a 3。75 rating** 。。。more

Man, that was。。。 unbelievable。And yet I had so much fun reading it。 Like I said, the two I's of me were checked - interested & invested。 Geez, I even have actual interest in the sequel! To sum everything up, BCM is okay。 No fireworks, no shocked pikachu faces, but my enjoyometer was filled。AND THAT COVER - HAVE YOU SEEN SUCH BEAUTY?! 。。。more

The beginning was really hard to get through, and the only good scenes were when bastien and ailesse are together。 Other than that it is kind of boring。 I give it 3。。。maybe 4 stars purely for the romance

Rating: 3。5/5Intriguing plot and presentation。 Could be better with pacing, several instances of time gaps up to 2 weeks to move plot along。 Also lost some character and relationship development scenes with time jumps, instead of entire scenes development was in several sentences and became one of the main reasons they now love each other。 Could have been more well-developed to avoid feeling like love occurred randomly and instantaneously。 Confusing villain decisions in the main battle scene wit Rating: 3。5/5Intriguing plot and presentation。 Could be better with pacing, several instances of time gaps up to 2 weeks to move plot along。 Also lost some character and relationship development scenes with time jumps, instead of entire scenes development was in several sentences and became one of the main reasons they now love each other。 Could have been more well-developed to avoid feeling like love occurred randomly and instantaneously。 Confusing villain decisions in the main battle scene with jumping into the Hell portal, really random。 Interesting set-up at the end for the next book but VERY reminiscent of ACOMF/ACWAR。 Also, new character seemed out of the blue and a convenient way to extend the series。 。。。more

If you like enemies to lovers, the type where they want to kill each other and are enemies then you will enjoy this book。I went into this book not knowing much about the plot and not understanding it completely but I feel like that’s why I enjoyed it more。 This book brought to life a new concept of Heaven and Hell and I really liked the way it was portrayed in a new light。 The concept of The Bone Criers or Leurress was really unique and something I’ve never seen before, and that’s rare these day If you like enemies to lovers, the type where they want to kill each other and are enemies then you will enjoy this book。I went into this book not knowing much about the plot and not understanding it completely but I feel like that’s why I enjoyed it more。 This book brought to life a new concept of Heaven and Hell and I really liked the way it was portrayed in a new light。 The concept of The Bone Criers or Leurress was really unique and something I’ve never seen before, and that’s rare these days since there is a lot of repetitiveness in books now a days。 The enemies to lovers was very well crafted and I deeply enjoyed, as well as a twist at the end that I did not see coming at all。 Overall this book was good and a light read, especially because I had no expectations from it。 Is it my favourite book? No。 Did I still enjoy it? Yes。 Would I recommend it? Well if you have ran out of books to read yes but there are better enemies to lover。In my opinion it had some very unique and different world building from what we see today and that’s what I look for in most books nowadays because I feel like many books use the same plot lines and I feel like this book did not。 The only thing I did not like much was that we didn’t get much character development, only in the relationships part but I feel like I would’ve like to understand deeper Bastien, Ailesse, Marcel, Jules and even Casimir, but I think they’re saving that for the next book。 。。。more

This is 2。5 stars but I'm rating it three here。 This is a hard one for me。 I liked this book and will probably read the second, but I did have some issues with it。 Three perspectives is awkward, especially when two perspectives are with each other for the majority of the book。 In all honesty, I felt it should have just been Sabine and Aileese's, and the author's set up of each girls true love being mixed up is interesting, so is the world-building。 I just found myself struggling to really get in This is 2。5 stars but I'm rating it three here。 This is a hard one for me。 I liked this book and will probably read the second, but I did have some issues with it。 Three perspectives is awkward, especially when two perspectives are with each other for the majority of the book。 In all honesty, I felt it should have just been Sabine and Aileese's, and the author's set up of each girls true love being mixed up is interesting, so is the world-building。 I just found myself struggling to really get into the book, it was only at the end that I found myself truly invested and interested in the story。 The first part just seemed to drag。 Either way, its worth a read! 。。。more

When she KNOWS she needs them to get rid of said invisible enemy?? I get why she did it (rather, I get that she thought she had reason to do it), but GIRL。 Read the ROOM。 Priorities, you know? (hide spoiler)]And honestly istfg if we have a love triangle for book two。。。。 we riot at dawn。 Hey, fantasy writers! You can write a fantasy book that doesn't have a needless love triangle!! I believe in you! But hey。。。 if she's aiming for a love square。。。 I can get behind that。I think I'd really like to read a fantasy where the women fight in fucking PANTS。 Seriously。 The Loreal (jk it's the Leuress(es?)) are a magical clan of literally ALL WOMEN who are BADASS and FIGHT and have an ancient purpose and they still wear dresses? nAH。 I will definitely be picking up book 2, but for the record, I think this book could have made a really strong standalone if Purdie had decided to wrap things up。 I can think of plenty of ways this story could have been self-contained within one slightly longer novel, and I also think it could have been even stronger。 Alas, I am not the author, so the point is moot。 。。。more

I really enjoyed it。 I was a little unsure about the multiple POVs in the beginning, but they worked, for the most part。 My only complaint about them is that I wish they hadn't been in first-person, as I found it a bit confusing when the perspective switched。 I liked Ailesse and Bastien's storylines, but I felt Sabine's was a little repetitive, circular, and passive。 She spends a whole lot of the book doing very little。 And every time she says "I know what I have to do" the thing that she "has t I really enjoyed it。 I was a little unsure about the multiple POVs in the beginning, but they worked, for the most part。 My only complaint about them is that I wish they hadn't been in first-person, as I found it a bit confusing when the perspective switched。 I liked Ailesse and Bastien's storylines, but I felt Sabine's was a little repetitive, circular, and passive。 She spends a whole lot of the book doing very little。 And every time she says "I know what I have to do" the thing that she "has to do" turns out to be something different。 Other than those things, I love the concept。 It's hauntingly beautiful in a really macabre way and I'm living for it。 The Leurress are a tribe of Amozonian reapers and I kind of want to be one of them。。。 。。。more

Before starting this book, I felt like it was going to be pretty average。 I could make a list going on about what made it so wonderful, but I’ll say what REALLY made me love it。 The lore and mythology is enchanting and makes the story so much more impactful。 And the friendship! Ailesse and Sabine’s friendship is just beautiful。 I feel like I’m overdoing it just a little, but I really do like this book and for those two purposes especially。

I really enjoyed the overall premise of this book and what makes this world unique。 I like the idea of Bone Criers and that they must kill their one true love to prove their loyalty。 This definitely felt a lot like An Ember in the Ashes in a way, so if you liked that series, you might want to pick this one up。Characters:We follow three main points of view in Bone Crier's Moon, Ailesse, Sabine, and Bastien。 Ailesse and Bastien didn't really do it for me。 Ailesse lacks any depth to her character。 We have no idea who she is except for a Bone Crier and fated to kill Bastien。 That's her whole personality。 Along with this, I wasn't a huge fan of the romance between Bastien and Ailesse。 It somehow turned from enemies to lovers in a span of one second, and nothing really shows that they have an undeniable attraction to each other, besides Bastien thinking her hair is pretty。 What saved this book is the wonderful Sabine。 What a powerful character。 She is #girlboss forever。 I'm gonna read the second book for my queen Sabine (yes, it rhymes)。Conclusion:Plot - Good。 Relationships - Not so good。 There are some great redeeming qualities about Bone Criers Moon, and I think it is worth the read since the plot is really cool, and the writing is fantastic。 The cover for the second one is phenomenal, and I will definitely be picking it up。 I think this next installment could make or break the duology for me。 。。。more

4 enjoyable stars ****”You will die, Bone Crier。 Because you are mine。”So this is the first YA fantasy I have read in a few months and I must say, I really enjoyed it (which I wasn’t expecting!)。 This book really piqued my interest with soul mates (but with murder/sacrifice), bone magic, and mythology。 It was a great fast-paced read and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the rituals etc。, to become a Ferrier (someone who ferry’s the dead)。 This had a great friendship between two best friends; A 4 enjoyable stars ****”You will die, Bone Crier。 Because you are mine。”So this is the first YA fantasy I have read in a few months and I must say, I really enjoyed it (which I wasn’t expecting!)。 This book really piqued my interest with soul mates (but with murder/sacrifice), bone magic, and mythology。 It was a great fast-paced read and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the rituals etc。, to become a Ferrier (someone who ferry’s the dead)。 This had a great friendship between two best friends; Ailesse and Sabine。 It was great to see their internal thoughts of one another and how they compared themselves to each other。 This also included an “enemies-to-lovers” romance which I am a sucker for too。 I enjoyed seeing the scenes between Bastien and Ailesse- I much preferred the angst and hatred at the beginning though。 Sabine was a character I definitely loved throughout the book- she just went from strength to strength- and would do anything for Ailesse and to get her back。 I did have some issues with the book however, so not a full 5 stars from me。 I found that the romance aspect between two of the characters shifted from hatred to love VERY fast, too quickly, without a natural progression or evolvement; so I didn’t enjoy that part。 Also, a new character was introduced in the last 100 pages and I just found this last part of the book to be SUPER rushed- almost as if the author was clamouring to get the book finished。 I’m not too sure if it’s because this story is told from 3 POV’s and so the author was trying to fit toomuch in? But I just felt certain things could’ve been developed and explained upon a lot more。 I additionally wanted to learn more about Odiva (the matronne of the Bone Crier’s) and find out more about her history, as we have clues about her past but not a full picture。 Maybe this will be developed upon in the next book?Overall a super fun read which held my attention, and other than those few things I wanted expanded upon more。 I will be reading book 2 soon! 。。。more

Some genuine conceptual uniqueness and really fast pacing are the only things supporting the bland characterization, laughable romance, and generally formulaic plot of this YA。 That said。。。the low rating may largely be due to the fact that the personalities of basically every living being within this book made me want to gag。 (Didn't mind Marcel or Birdie too much though。) Some genuine conceptual uniqueness and really fast pacing are the only things supporting the bland characterization, laughable romance, and generally formulaic plot of this YA。 That said。。。the low rating may largely be due to the fact that the personalities of basically every living being within this book made me want to gag。 (Didn't mind Marcel or Birdie too much though。) 。。。more
